Artist Statement

Amy Wang is an artist and freelance jeweller based in Sheffield with an academic background in Decorative Art (BA), Interior Design (MA) and Architecture (Ph.D.). She specialises in precious metals and loves the processes involved. She developed her goldsmithing skills in Sheffield and at the School of Master Jewellers in Birmingham Jewellery Quarter. As an artist, she developed her styles in oils and pencils and tutored in drawing skills.

Her work reflects her passion for the natural world and environments where she finds her inspiration from wildlife, seashells, clouds, and flora. In her jewellery designs, she combines these elements with traditional Chinese patterns to create unique creations that are both exquisite and delicate. She often works with different gemstones according to a client’s needs and many of her designs show her appreciation of the colour and shape of natural pearls. When painting and drawing she takes inspiration from everyday life, focusing on human and animal portraits as well as urban landscapes.

The different techniques she has learnt whilst developing her talents for jewellery-making as well as drawing have enabled her to successfully work on a variety of commissions ensuring they have something to treasure, perhaps encapsulating a special occasion, one that brings them joy. Her creations reflect her artistic and design background, from her studies of the decorative arts to the sense of proportion and scale necessary in architectural design. She is now partly based in a workshop at ‘Portland Works’ and a home studio in Sheffield.
