Artist Statement
Celia's work is of everyday characters in real life, creating a composition using depth, shapes, textures and shadows, that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Celia enjoys finding a subject which makes people pause and wonder what is the story behind the painting.Celia has loved drawing and painting since she was a young child. She loves the exciting way in which watercolour paint reacts and moves on the paper, particularly when using the wet-in-wet technique. She finds that controlling a drop of paint and encouraging it in the direction that you want it to go is so thrilling. Celia loves the beauty and unpredictability of watercolours, some of which have won her prestigious awards at Patchings Open Art Competition 2013,2015 and 2016. Leisure Painter Highly Commended Award 2016. The SAA Best Amateur for Still Life 2016 and The Best in Show at Ashby de la Zouch Art Festival 2017. Selected for Patchings Exhibition 2021 and was selected again in 2022, where she won an award for her Artwork, then again in 2022, Celia won The Derbyshire NHS Winner of, "Looking Forwards", Arts and Crafts Competition.
