Artist Statement
I'm often introduced as my business name ‘CRZyBest’ and that's great, because I am Claire R. Zwozny-Bestwick.Eco-friendly, non-traditional Silversmith & Sculptor, working from my Shedquarters in Derbyshire: creating predominantly in metal clay, creating tiny kiln fired sculptures which I turn into jewellery, lapel pins, gifts, accessories and alternative bouquets amongst other things!
Although I am open to working in a variety of materials, my favourite medium to create in, is metal clay: which once fired turns into the metal version of itself. I use 950 Silver clay that once fired in my pink kiln, can be hallmarked as 925 sterling silver and I am registered at Goldsmiths Hall in London for this if my creations weigh over 7.78g, or if I just fancy having something hallmarked. My copper clay, when fired in a special two-part kiln firing turns into pure copper, which I then polish and heat-treat to create the fabulous colours you can see in my creations.
Tiny sculptures inspired by dogs and beer are most definitely my favourite things to create, branching out into hop and vine leaves too. I make a variety of nature inspired pieces in silver and copper and enjoy handcrafting tiny sculptures of other animals and objects too, including bees, books, turtles and hares. I even offer workshops and craft kits so that you can make your own!
My tiny sculptures are often destined to become jewellery and accessories available to buy from my website or when you visit me at events or my Shedquarters. I also create bespoke pieces and I’m always excited to take on special requests; recent commissions include tiny bespoke earrings, anniversary gifts, hair accessories and multiple pieces for interior design installations.
