Jenny Rothwell

Location: Hayfield   /  Genre: Jewellery

Artist Statement

Jenny works from her home and garden workshop in New Mills where she is also a member of the artist’s co-operative at New Mills Gallery.

Her work is influenced by seasonal changes in the local landscape and flora, observed whilst walking in the Peak District. She remembers being an inquisitive child with a fascination for the hedgerow and a love of wildflowers and continues to be influenced by the fields and wildlife outside her garden workshop.

“ I take lots of photos whilst out and about, walking in the hills and lanes where I live and try to change my designs and colours with the seasons.”

Her “ Meadow” and “Landscape” ranges of anodised aluminium jewellery have perhaps been her most popular work and have been exhibited in various galleries and exhibitions

In this work Jenny prints and paints tiny scenes from nature onto anodised aluminium, experimenting with the effects of different dyes and inks so that each piece is unique. The images are then sealed by applying heat and the jewellery is cut from the patterned aluminium to create colourful, light pieces, each one slightly different to the next. In her work she attempts to show what we would see if “we bent down closer to take a proper look”.

Jenny's silver work includes textured leaves and flowers with the addition of semi precious stones.
