Artist Statement
I am a self-taught artist, having rediscovered my love of being creative after having children. Initially I tried to follow 'the rules', but quickly realised that art has no rules. The freedom this revelation has granted me has been wonderful, and I have loved experimenting with expressive colourful backgrounds, and a more controlled and focused approach to a subject matter. I love colour, energy, and movement in my artwork, and typically choose seascapes or windy rolling hills as my starting point. I love to include wildlife, particularly animals whose movements can be reflected in the backgrounds of my work.My work falls into the ‘abstract’ category, and I love to hear what viewers see in the brushstrokes and colours. I do however, like to have a focal point, a subject matter that is easily identifiable, creating an artwork that makes the viewer think and feel in a way that is quite comfortable.
I also love to create illustrations using pen and pencil. Often these form the basis of a focal point for a painting, and often there is a warmth or quirkiness to the illustration that makes the viewer smile.
I also run art workshops and weekly art clubs for children and adults, sharing my enthusiasm for creativity with others is fulfilling and inspiring!
