Artist Statement
Karen Heywood Dip AD, FRSAKaren studied Graphic Design at Stockport and Leicester College of Art. She was awarded a bursary from the Royal Society of Arts as a result of winning a national competition.
Karen illustrated over 50 children's books throughout her career and was also a drawn animator for Cosgrove Hall Films, working on children’s programmes such as Dangermouse, Duckular, the BFG and Rainbow.
In 2000 she studied Art Psychotherapy at the University of Sheffield. She spent 6 years working in cancer care and mental health.
After retiring, Karen rented a studio at Vernon Mill in Stockport. She now paints in her studio at Dinting. Her main interest lies in fantasy painting, though she also enjoys landscapes, wildlife and portraiture, working in a variety of media.
She has exhibited at the Portico, Buxton Art Gallery, Stockport Art Gallery, Manchester Art Fair, Urbis and other local venues.
