Artist Statement

Growing up with both grandfather and mother who made art, taught art and travelled widely to follow the work of artists it would be no surprise that I would do the same. However my training and work was in the art of music and it was not until I retired that I found the luxury of time to explore myself as a visual artist.
Working in primary education for over 30 years I increasingly recognised the value and importance of all the arts in their links to the core subjects of children's learning. I was able to realise this in my headship of what gradually became an arts centred school, where excitement and understanding of these important links throughout all areas of learning is crucial to our development.
My work embraces exploration of different subjects and media, where the journey through this opens new directions of thought, experimentation and artistic thinking.
Since my retirement I have exhibited my work in France, Devon, Buxton's galleries and pop up exhibitions, Glossop's Labour club, Bradbury House, the Railway Station gallery, Dukes cafe, Glossopdale Furniture Project shop and with cards of my work in the Dark Peak bookshop.
In this year's Derbyshire Open Arts exhibition my work is centred around
landscapes both abroad and local.
