Artist Statement
Please note: unfortunately this venue will not be open on Monday 27th.A twin growing up in Knutsford, Cheshire, Rob learned to forge his own identity through art from an early age. He taught himself to draw by sketching trees and ever since then Rob has been constantly learning and soaking up influences that fuel his imagination.
At Bradford University he studied Graphic Design and Illustration. The city’s rich textile heritage still resonates in his work today, with vintage sewing patterns and stitching often weaving intricate layers of texture, detail and colour together. His eye for graphic design can also be felt in his distinctive mixed-media paintings.
Numerous awards, including Best Artist at Buxton Festival Fringe and the Buxton Spa Prize, saw demand for his abstract cityscapes and moody landscapes grow. As well as the architecture of Manchester, Rob’s depictions of London and other bustling cities, including Shanghai, Prague, Amsterdam and Venice, can be found in homes across the world.
“His distinctive work is described as mixed media, but this belies the complexity of his painting process which combines layers of paint, paper and print with stitching” Pure Peak Magazine
In addition to private commissions, he’s produced work for Lancashire County Cricket Club, Manchester United Football Club, Transport for London, Westminster Abbey and the National Trust.
Rob lives with his family in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, and works from his studio in Glossop. With the Peak District on his doorstep, his vivid paintings of the natural world reflect his contemporary and unique touch.
